Financial Planning can be described as the process of helping individuals put together a wealth management plan.  This plan illustrates the preferred course of action to make the best use of their financial assets and helping them to achieve specific economic objectives.  Examples of objectives include: adequate funding of a child's college education expenses, planning for post-retirement needs, retiring of debt, developing a savings plan, etc.
