History of Atlantic Financial
1994 - the Internet Ice Age Pioneer

Atlantic Financial always saw the Internet as simply another tool to help customers never as the end all be all of business existence or a get rich quick scheme.
Just like phones, paper, mail, bricks and mortar and PCs, the Internet is a tool, nothing more, nothing less.
Atlantic Financial's recognition of this is why we grew prudently and thrived despite the dot com shakeup.

Another Internet pioneer, Yahoo is shown here with an early rendition of their site.
At the time you could "tour Yahoo" by simply clicking every link they had.
As more and more sites were added, this became harder to do and one day impossible.
Yahoo has never looked back by 1995 days of being able to tour Yahoo were gone for good.

Since the early days in the history of the Internet in the 1990s, Atlantic Financial has been among the pioneering financial services firms offering client services on the Web.

E-commerce activities throughout Internet history bore witness to the rise and fall of many well-meaning companies. Even before the dot-com era, Atlantic Financial regarded the Internet as another powerful tool to help customers receive excellent service and support.

As a result, Atlantic Financial's recognition of the true value of the Internet to business endeavors is the reason why the company grew prudently and thrived despite the dot com shakeup. Founded in 1994, Atlantic Financial was among the first financial firms that had a web presence even during the early history of the Internet, particularly e-commerce.

The year 1994 was an eventful year in the history of the Internet, according to Zakon Group LLC. The Internet (then known as ARPANET) celebrated its 25th anniversary in 1994, and communities such as Lexington and Cambridge in Massachusetts, started being “wired up” directly to the Internet. 1994 was also a hallmark year in Internet history for government, as the U.S. Senate and Congress started offering information servers. All over the world, some of the first government sites included: the Japanese Prime Minister on-line; UK's HM Treasury on-line; and New Zealand's Info Tech Prime Minister on-line.

The history of the Internet also recorded the blossoming of e-commerce and e-business activities in 1994. The first shopping malls began to arrive on the World Wide Web that year. First Virtual, the first cyberbank, opened up for business. The first banner ads – for Zima and AT&T – appeared on hotwired.com.

Internet history during the 1990s saw more and more companies that began to see the value of establishing a web presence for their services and products. The relative ease with which many companies can establish online storefronts has inspired the proliferation of web-based businesses during the mid- to late-1990s.

Hundreds of Internet-based startup firms fed the clamor of investors who were hungry for the next big investment opportunity. Low interest rates and record amounts of venture capital funds during 1998 and 1999 helped increase startup capital available to entrepreneurs. Unfortunately, while many of the new dot-com superstars were gifted entrepreneurs, many others were just people with ideas who didn't effectively and prudently manage the influx of capital. The latter class of entrepreneurs comprised the management of many of the dot-com companies that went bust in 2000.

Atlantic Financial has weathered the many ups and downs throughout the history of the Internet. President and CEO Bruce Fenton never regarded the Internet as the “end all, be all” of business existence or a get-rich-quick scheme. “Just like phones, paper, mail, bricks and mortar and PCs, the Internet is a tool: nothing more, nothing less,” says Fenton.
